Where Skis Come to Life: A Visit to BSCC Member Elan in Begunje

In the heart of the Slovenian Alps, where winter sports are part of the landscape and local identity, we visited our member Elan in Begunje, a company whose name has been synonymous with alpine innovation for more than 80 years.

Our visit began inside Elan’s production facility, where ideas are transformed into skis under one roof. From design and engineering to manufacturing and testing, the entire development process takes place in Begunje, making Elan one of the few ski manufacturers in the world to manage the full product journey in a single location. Each year, around 350,000 pairs of skis are produced here, blending traditional craftsmanship with advanced automation and a strong focus on sustainability.

The timing of the visit added another layer to the story. Earlier that same week, Elan launched its new ACE series, introducing the Active Suspension Drive technology. Seeing this latest innovation on the production floor brought the company’s commitment to continuous improvement and performance-led design vividly to life.

We were warmly welcomed by Elan’s CEO, Jeffrey Tirman, and learned more about the Elan brand, its evolution, and global positioning from Melanja Korošec and Domen Gaiman. The visit concluded at the Alpine Ski Museum, where Andreja Kopitar guided us through Elan’s rich history and lasting contribution to alpine skiing.

We would like to thank the Elan team for the warm welcome, as well as everyone who joined us. This marked the first stop in our new series of member visits, BSCC Open Day, designed to help our business community get to know our members better while also offering members and those interested in our joining our Chamber an informal opportunity to spend time together, connect, and learn more about our work. We very much look forward to visiting more of our members in the months ahead.
